We know it comes on the same time every year, but most of us wait until all of the craziness comes…lol okay, that and we love the deals. However, we can quickly get spun into a loop of spontaneous shopping because 1) we don’t have a plan or 2) we just flat out divert off that plan and grab whatever so we can quickly check off our list.

Well it’s not too late to stop doing that. Christmas is still a couple of weeks away and I know you still have those last minute gifts to buy so I’m here to help guide you with these simple rules to help you stay on that plan and keep focused. With a plan and a focus you will truly save money this year!

Let’s get started…

  1. Make a list and budget – yup just sit down and get it done. List out who you need to buy for and any possible ideas/suggestions that you know of also, be sure to plan ahead for those gift exchanges at parties. Be sure to put a spending allowance next to each item.
  2. Use Ebates if you shop online – this is about getting your own money back into your pocket! If you already have it, be sure to add the Google extension so it automatically reminds you when you visit an online store that they have. This alone helps me tremendously.
  3. Don’t settle for one sale – Some sales aren’t really deals, they may be using all of the hype of the season to portray as one, but in reality not even close. I always compare prices! One place I always compare with is Amazon or do a simple Google search on the item and you will find many stores to compare against.
  4. Use Coupons – Many stores have apps now that provide quick access to their coupons. Compare your list to their ads so you know what you need to have readily available when you shop. I know, I dread having so many apps on my phone too so I use one app that let’s me find all of the other store apps, the one I use is RetailMeNot. There is no reason to buy anything full price ?
  5. Don’t go outside of your list – This may be the hardest of all but when the shopping is over, you will be able to compare how much you spent this year compared to last year and most of all you won’t feel like you got sucked into any spontaneous spending!

You’re set but one final word…don’t forget to bring your list with you! ?
